understood for its many health benefits and we offer it here at the spa year round.
When we understand the health and function of the skin we can see how taking care of the skin will affect the health of our whole body. Our largest organ, the skin, takes in oxygen and excretes waste. It is also regulates our body temperature and is our first defense against disease. By sloughing off the dead skin cells we aide the skin in its tasks and stimulate an increase of blood flow to its surface. The increase of circulation brings about an increase in the nutrients and oxygen to the skin. This helps with cellular turnover as you shed and grow new skin cells everyday, giving you healthier cells and therefore helping with the resilience, and elasticity of the skin. This is particularly helpful to those whose skin is thinning due to age.
It is fairly easy to do yourself all that is required is a body brush. Make sure your skin is dry to avoid tearing. We recommend light circular movements to stimulate and then sweeping towards the center of the body. Don't use aggressive force as you do not want to damage the skin but to stimulate. If you are unsure of how to start on your own come see us and we would be happy to teach you when you book a body brushing with any of our service providers.
